BRASS-STATIC: Capacitive Touch Sensing Crosstalk on Brass Controller Surface
BRASS-STATIC: Capacitive Touch Sensing Crosstalk on Brass Controller Surface
INCIDENT NARRATIVE
During outdoor field testing of a 72-tone microtonal brass touch controller, extremely low ambient humidity (8%) allowed static electricity on performer hands to falsely trigger adjacent capacitive sensor pads without physical contact.
ROOT CAUSE ANALYSIS
Capacitive touch baseline tracking algorithm was tuned for humid indoor studio environments and failed to adapt to sudden electrostatic discharge spikes.
CONTAINMENT PROTOCOL
Added a grounded conductive wristband for performers and implemented an adaptive baseline filtering algorithm that discards instantaneous static steps.
