ZIAA ARCHIVE RECORDANOMALY POST-MORTEMS
EMI-CASCADE: Electromagnetic Interference Cascade from Unshielded Switching Supply
EMI-CASCADE: Electromagnetic Interference Cascade from Unshielded Switching Supply
INCIDENT NARRATIVE
During high-resolution archival audio digitization in Studio C, audio recordings were found contaminated with a high-pitched 48 kHz carrier tone and audible 12 kHz aliased tones. Investigation traced the noise to a newly installed modular synthesizer bench supply in the adjoining room.
ROOT CAUSE ANALYSIS
Unshielded switching power supply coils radiated high-frequency electromagnetic noise along common laboratory mains wiring.
CONTAINMENT PROTOCOL
Mandated linear toroidal power supplies for all archival and precision metrology benches. Enclosed all switching regulators in copper mu-metal cages.
